METRUM was formed in 2009. Their passion for progressive rhythms, combined with grooving guitar riffs and a unique voice ignite emotions in their listeners hearts and minds. Since 2016 furious violin melodies take the bands diversity to the next level. The musicians' roots are diverse, coming from the US, Australia and Austria.
The band's interest in international politics and history have shaped their critical reflectiveness of the world. Human rights, environmental and sociopolitical issues are not just empty phrases in Metrum's lyrics.
Their debut album “Broken” was released in February 2012 and contained two singles that were played on several radio stations in Germany and the UK. Their first music video was voted into the top 10 video charts of goTv. Notable music magazines like Heavy, Legacy and Dark Spy Magazine published great reviews and interviews. Other journalists from all over Europe also published positive album reviews on the internet.
The second album “You Know” was released February 2015. Concerning their new compositions and sound, the new release revealed Metrum's even higher level of professionalism. Once again many magazines such as Rock Hard, Legacy and Metal Hammer and influential radio stations like WDR 2, SWR 3 reviewed the album on air. Additionally the song Red Carpet was featured on a sampler of the Legacy Magazine and interviews were published in Austrian and German Magazines.
You Know was mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Paradise Lost, Katatonia, Enslaved...) in Sweden.
After many local live performances, the three musicians were very excited to play their first major festival at the Danube Island Festival 2011, on a stage that supported the human rights movement. Among other festival performances in 2012 their most interesting experience was playing in the UK at the Mayday festival in Chesterfield. They took a break from the studio in 2013 and supported Jeff Scott Soto (Talisman, Journey, Yngwie Malmsteen...) in April on his tour in Italy.
In September 2013 Metrum hit the road again, with the NWoBHM legends Blitzkrieg from the UK. The Back from Hell Tour brought Metrum to Germany and the Netherlands. One of the highlights of the tour was the Turock Open Air Festival in Essen where they shared the stage with Grand Magus, Enforcer, Hell and many other fantastic artists.
One year after playing in Italy with Jeff Scott Soto and his Band for the first time, Metrum got the opportunity to join up with them once more and tour in Hungary, Germany and the Netherlands in May and June 2014. In 2015 and 2016 Metrum will be playing in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
